5 months

Holy cow has time flown. I was looking back at some pictures from Caleb's birth and it seems like so long ago. I'm pretty sure time if flying because I'm back at work. I don't remember time passing so quickly when I was on maternity leave. Now life is great, we all have a better understanding of each other which makes everything better. As I was looking back over photos I started to remember those hard first few weeks. I was desperate for sleep and to have a clue what Caleb wanted/needed. I was terrified of doing anything wrong, still not so confident but I've discovered the hard way he is pretty resilient.

I'll blog more later but here are some recent photos.

Max is feeling a bit left out these days. But that is because he scratched Caleb last week. I know he did not intend to hurt Caleb, he was just trying to get my attention, but I was very very mad at him. I didn't speak to him or look at him for 24 hours. Max was so relieved when I finally looked at him. You can tell in the picture he's not so happy.

Evidently attention from Caleb is not good enough. Hopefully that is just for now and in a year or less they will be best friends.

Caleb loves his jolly jumper. This one is way old school that I got at a consignment sale for $2. I figured if he really likes it then maybe I'll buy a nicer one.

4 months (well 2 weeks ago)

I am so slow on this post. School has definately picked back up and most days the last thing I want to do when I get home is get on a computer. And due to insurance reasons Caleb went for his 4 month appointment almost two weeks late.

He now weighs 14lbs 10 ounces which puts him in the 50% percentile, and I have no idea how long he is because Chris forgot to write it down, but he did remember that he is in the 75% for height. Which if you remember from the last appointment (at 2 months) he is evidently slowing down. Maybe we won't have a tall child. Chris was kind enough to take Caleb to the doctor since the hours of the doctors office are the exact same as the hours for school and i have no sick days left after maternity leave. It was weird to not be the one to take him, but I'm glad the boys got some bonding time in and Chris got to see the daycare and meet all the wonderful ladies there.

Caleb has had a bit of cold for the past three weeks. You could probably say it is from being at daycare or that it is this crazy weather, or I'm picking something up from the kids at school at giving it to him, who knows. I took him to the doctor one day because it sounded like his congestion had moved from his nose to his chest. She could hear what worried me about his cough but said his chest and ears are clear. she said it may be a virus and to keep an eye/ear out for any shortnesss of breath, wheezing, or labored breathing. So far so good, but he is very snotty. She told me use saline spray and suction before each feeding, a humidifier and elevate one side of the bed. Well the elevation of the bed did not work. I would put Caleb down for bed and check on him a few hours later and the boy had twisted himself 180 degrees and was now head down on the tilt, encouraging the drainage to clog his poor nose. One night i found him precariously in the corner with one arm poking out of the crib and one leg poking out of the other side of the crib. So we stopped tilting the mattress.

The saline spray didn't go much better than the tilting of the mattress. The boy hates anything touching his nose. He hates it when you wipe his nose, non the less stick something up his nostril and spray it, which is followed by sucking out his brain, or at least that is what I think he is thinking. For a while there it took two of us to use the saline spray, one to spray it and the other to hold his head still and his arms down. Whoosh he did not like it. Then one day I discovered the glory of the saline Mist, not spray but a gentle mist. Caleb still does not like it but he only screams for a second and it is easier to use so I can get it done faster. When the boy does not like something he lets you know. Hmm do we think he is going to be a stubborn child? Remember when I told you he is proficient at rolling over. Well every time I go to use the saline mist he starts to turn his head then throws his feet over and before you know it the boy is on his side or stomach, luckily the changing pad is contoured which makes it harder to complete the rolling over. I now have to keep a hand on his chest to prevent him from rolling over. If you want more of a visual, Caleb currently only rolls to the left. Which means that as I am attempting to clean out all of the snotty mess, Caleb is turning his head and body away from me. The trick is to do it quickly so he doesn't have time to see it coming . With the surprise attack he only fusses for second then lays there kind of stunned, which is perfect for me to start suctioning the snot out.

While I am typing Caleb is enjoying his newest toy, a jolly jumper. I got it at a consignment sale yesterday for $2. It is not the prettiest version I have seen but the boy enjoys jumping and spinning around. There have been so many consignment sales lately it is awesome. I didn't even go to all of them and I went to three. Everyone has a different strategy for consignment sales, some people say to go early on the first day so you have the best selection. Some say to go on the last day because there are less people to deal with and usually half off. I opted for the half off Saturday route, plus with working going on Thursday or Friday was out of the question. I decided I would not spend more than $2 on an item of clothing, which turned out to be pretty easy. I focused on summer/spring clothing. Which is what I had none of and was the majority of what was available. All of these sales have a fall and a winter sale, one in March and one in September, perfect for the changing seasons. And now I have my favorite consignment sales, and I learned it is so much easier if you don't take the baby with you. That was a nightmare, but luckily I was surrounded by moms who looked at me/caleb with understanding not annoyance.

Now that I have been at work for a month, we have our routine. The only down side to our routine is that if Caleb doesn't take a good nap (more than an hour) at daycare then he is super fussy for the majority of the time we have in the evenings. But our mornings are so sweet.

Oh I remember what I wanted to tell you. The other night Caleb slept from 6:30 - 6:15 when I woke him because we needed to leave soon. I was shocked. And sadly disappointed. I thought it would be the most glorious day ever. The day I finally got to sleep and wake up on my own, not to the sound of a crying baby. Instead, I was still tired. I was trying to decide when the last time I slept without waking up to get Caleb or to go to the bathroom, I decided it was August. Don't worry Caleb woke me up the next night at 3:30, so all is back to normal with one late night feeding. Maybe the next time he sleeps through the night that will be the amazing night of the best sleep I have ever had. Maybe if i went to sleep closer to his bedtime and not three and half hours later then I it would be glorious.

Don't know what is going on with my eye but atleast Caleb looks cute is his rubgy outfit

I love this one. Chris can always make Caleb laugh.

Chris' mom is notorious for taking tons of pictures. Unfortunately she has been feeling under the weather for the past two months. And the other day she uploaded a whole bunch of pictures of the family. Here are my favorite pictures, which I think are from early February till now.

This one I know is from February 13
