3 months old

This past weekend we traveled to Miami, our first trip with the little man. Traveling always has some stress involved but traveling with an infant can be exhausting. He did really well on both plane rides, but I was exhausted. Every time someone would glance at us I was so nervous they were annoyed with this baby who was being fussy, but that is just what happens when your plane is delayed an hour and your trying to feed your baby on take off.

We went to Miami for a good friends wedding, which was wonderful. But I have decided that If I can avoid it Caleb will not be attending another wedding until he is at least 10. It is a lot of work to have an infant at a wedding, because everyone is there to enjoy themselves and be with the happy couple. And Caleb loves to be moving which is tiring. Chris was in the wedding party, so I was on my own for a good part of the wedding. My arms were tired after the weekend. Oh and then we are packed and ready to board our plane to leave and it was canceled. Yep the flight was canceled, along with all other flights that evening into our airport. Luckily my hubby has medallion status so they re booked us automatically on the next flight (the following morning at 6:25). Caleb typically sleeps till 7:30 in the mornings so when we left the hotel at 4:45 am we left him swaddled and he slept until I woke him up to change his diaper before boarding the plane. He really did well, considering all of the changes and travel.

This weekend was the first time it hit me that I am a mom and life is different. Don't get me wrong, it is wonderful, but it is not the same as it used to be

To recap the last month:
  • Caleb is now responding to my voice, and smiling often
  • He went on his first plane ride
  • He went to the beach and touched the sand
  • He stayed in a hotel (well this was actually the second time)
  • He "saw" the ocean and boats
  • He got some sun (mommy and daddy got burnt even though I brought sunscreen)
  • He is now sucking on his bottom lip (I guess he just discovered it was there)
  • He is playing with his tongue, sticking it out and moving it around
  • He attended his first rehearsal dinner
  • He attended his second wedding (two weekends in a row)
On a side note, I go back to work in less than two weeks. So many emotions.

Caleb has had a couple of play dates with his good friend Mary Stewart. And since we moved we now live only five minutes away from each other. Mary Stewart is 25 days older than Caleb.

I can't believe they both looked at the camera
Caleb wouldn't stop moving, while MS was chillin/posing

This is my favorite onesie and I was so excited he got to wear it

Caleb and the groom (Caleb is on his knee and closer to the camera,
his head is not actually the same size as T. Jack's)

The trip was not always fun and smiles, there were a few fussy moments.
Chris thinks it's funny

Ryan and little man (notice the tongue). Ryan was our traveling companion who was kind enough to help carry some of our things. Thanks Ryan!

Being serious on our morning walk

On our morning walk through the marina, gorgeous.

The Beautiful wedding
Caleb fell asleep during the service, and it was a tad bit windy.

Touching the sand.

On the plane at the end of the flight. He's started drooling a lot.

Pacifier or no Pacifier

Caleb is now 10 weeks old and he doesn't seem to really like a pacifier, most days. However in the last week on three different occasions he wanted and loved his pacifier. So I would try again the next day and he would chew on it but not suck on it, and when I took it away he didn't care. I keep trying to give him a pacifier since all other babies love their pacifiers but I don't think he wants/likes/or needs a pacifier.

He fell asleep almost immediately after getting the pacifier.

Here he is holding the pacifier

I don't know if you can tell, but he isn't sucking on the pacifier. Which means if falls out every two seconds or so. Some days when this happens he cries until you put the pacifier back in his mouth and the cycle stars all over again. Other days it falls out and he doesn't notice.

Oh and a bit of back story. I tried giving him a pacifier when he was born and he did not like it. I tried again for a bit. Then gave up on them because we were having trouble with breast feeding and I wasn't feeding him often enough and I was trying to read his cues and was concerned that a pacifier was interfering with my ability to read him. Then he would bring his hands to his mouth kind of gumming on them and sometime sucking so I tried a pacifier again. That was a few weeks ago.

So does this mean my child isn't a pacifier kid? Do I have the wrong type of pacifier (I've tried two other types which he had even less interest in)? Did I ruin his ability to take a pacifier by not trying harder earlier? Does it even matter if my child uses a pacifier?

This was after Caleb's shots :( notice the band aids.

on Christmas day

Our Christmas card photo, this picture took a while to get.
Notice my hand bracing in case the little man looses his balance or Max hears a door bell.

Well I thought we were doing really well with sleeping. I even bragged to a few friends at church. Evidently Caleb didn't want me to get a big head, so he decided to wake up about three more times during the night than "usual". The last few nights have been not so wonderful. He's been waking up every two hours, sometimes after an hour. Chris says he thinks Caleb is going through a growth spurt. Which I hope is true because then it means this is just temporary and not that we have regressed in sleeping during the night.

It seems that just we I think we are getting the hang of this and we have some semblance of a pattern established, it changes. At least I can't be mad at Caleb cause he is just too cute. He has started smiling. It is wonderful. Now this does not happen all the time but it is nice to see that he is getting more interactive.

In other news Caleb can now roll from his stomach to his back. Still working on going the other way, which it looks like will be quite some time (those arms keep getting in the way).

He looks so big in a big boy outfit.
